9. Art and notions of the beautiful are incredible. For the New Man, art is incredible, meaning that unlike money, power, romance, crime, and consumer goods, art has no credibility in everyday life. Art and notions of what constitutes beauty apparently have value only to a select few who are seen to use their alleged knowledge and understanding of art and aesthetics as an excuse to feel superior to the common man. On the New American Landscape, art and beauty are, at best, incomprehensible and irrelevant. At worst, art is considered a device with which snobs berate the masses.
